about
philospeak is a term I created a few years back to describe my so-called high brow take on what is often – and unfortunately – called low culture. In my opinion, this low culture is arguably better defined as popular culture, or just pop culture.
In spite, or perhaps because of my graduate studies, I’ve continued to harbor an acute interest in many common, popular entertainment options: television, movies, radio-friendly music, top-ten novels and the like. I feel these mediums have become the distribution means to provide a shared knowledge (and implicitly a value system). In strange and unexpected ways it enriches our lives and provides a “collective unconscious” that in the end results in much more good than bad.
As friends know, I’m not shy in expressing my take on things. Because of that, I’ve decided to publish some commentary, musings and humorous tidbits to share and open a dialogue with like-minded people. I hope it will be entertaining, unexpected and on the rare occasion: enlightening.
Thanks for your interest and I look forward to seeing your comments!
